Gay Pride Shop was launched in the Summer of 2018, from Manchester based Make Up Or Break Up (MUOBU).
MUOBU was founded back in 2014 by a gay couple from Manchester, selling glitter, cosmetics, face paint, hair dyes and more in the world famous Afflecks in Manchester.
Afflecks in well know for being an emporium of indie commerce with a zero tolerance for homophobia, racism, transphobia and hate crime and is a favourite destination for the diverse community of the North.
In 2017, MUOBU launched the website www.festivalglitter.co.uk to sell their exclusive glitters, biodegradable glitter and face jewels online. The site was a huge success and quickly became the UK's largest festival glitter website with the largest selection in the world.
Around the time of London Pride 2018, the owners noticed that many of the smaller glitter websites were offering Gay Pride themed glitters and jewels, cashing in on the pink pound, but giving nothing back. At the same time, many high street retailers were also looking to cash in with rainbow themed goods, for that 1 week.
While it's amazing that so many companies are visibly gay friendly, wouldn't it be great if they actually gave back to the LGBTQ+ community and showed their support for the other 51 weeks of the year!
That's why this website was launched. www.gayprideshop.co.uk will be out, loud and proud 52 weeks of the year and will always give back to the LGBTQ+ community. 15% of our profits will also be shared equally with these 3 amazing charities:
- The Albert Kennedy Trust - supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people who are homeless, living in a hostile environment or in a housing crisis.
- The George House Trust - providing HIV support and advice services.
- Mermaids - supporting gender variant and transgender children, young people up to 20 years old, and their families.
If you're a LGBTQ+ business and would like us to stock your products, or if you have any questions or comments please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
